Today, I saw Mr. Bass's syrup equipment. My camera was malfunctioning, so I didn't' get pictures. However, the power mill is a Chattanooga 72 in about as good shape as I have seen. The gears looked good and the grooves were deep in the rollers. It is powered by a 5 hp electric motor 206-230 volts 1750 rpm. The 5 hp gear reduction box is made by Mars(or Martian?) and has large shafts coming in and going out with a heavy sprocket gear on the end--about 8" maybe. Chain on sprocket is very heavy. The mill seems to turn at nice slow speed. My guess is it turns at maybe 7-8 rpm. Mr. Bass is asking about $9000 for this heavy duty setup.
The evaporator pan is 16' rather than 24' previously thought. He has a buyer for it and the cane cutter now. The JD 950, 3 cylinder tractor is still available(as of this morning).
