[Syrupmakers] Hows Everyones Sugar Cane Looking?

If you are going to use it for seedcane only, then it isn't too late at all to apply nitrogen.
I bought a new weedeater today(Bolens), $89 plus tax, 1 or 2 year warranty from Lowe's. It has the same engine that my Troy-bilt has for $60 less.

I'm only gonna use this cane for more seed cane for next year. so the taste doesn't really matter.

I've been using a weedeater also.

JT,
Most growers refrain from adding any nitrogen after about July 1---to avoid salty syrup later. I'd say that IF you added any nitrogen now to use it sparingly and use nitrate forms like Potassium Nitrate, for example---a form that won't hang around long in the soil. Using nitrogen late in the year can cause syrup to be darker.
I don't know any spray that can be used safely now to kill the grass and not the cane. We are currently beginning to use the weedeater around the cane and lawn mower in the middles.

Mine just started jumping.(in central Miss.) This is my 1st year so it may be normal, but the cane seems to be jumping a few inches a day. It's a little dry, but it's sprinkling outside now. I also thought that I didn't get a very good stand, but that stuff sure does bush out and take up a lot of space now that it's bigger.

Is there anything I can spray right now to kill the grass and not the cane?
If I can get that under control I should be doing good.

Is it time to apply some nitrogen?

Thanks,
JT
