Sheri,

You don't need to worry about a cane mill right now unless you really think
you are going to want to take on a pretty labor intensive project.  I would
wait until I try the stove trick this year, then visit another producer in your
area to see what really goes into making syrup.

You will also need to plant about a quarter acre in sorghum to fill your kettle.

I would advise reading the NSSPPA site at: http://www.ca.uky.edu/nssppa/
for a good overview of sorghum syrupmaking.
