Hey just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. This goes on a lot in the honey
business. Until a couple years ago we had to buy a lot of honey from smaller
beekeepers to finish out the year. And we always had problems with keeping a
consistent product. The moisture, color and taste was all over the place. You
really need 200-250 gallon heated tank so you can blend 3-4 drums together to
keep it as consistent as possible. We always tried to hold on to a few light
colored and low moisture drum so we could blend them with any dark, high
moisture honey.

Donald,
I think it is a great idea. It will probably depend on whether the
wholesaler can make $$$$ of course. But it sounds good and a good time to
approach the subject for next season. Larger producers could probably use the
additional market and cut out the need for a lot of small sales of syrup to make
their season.
Thanks for coming up with the idea !

Good Morning:

Would there be syrup makers willing to sell finished Sugarcane or Sorghum
syrup in bulk for us to bottle and sell? (I would provide food grade drums for
the finished syrup.)

What would the approximate cost per gallon be if purchased in bulk? (Regular
Sales Price – Labor – Bottles/Jugs = ???)

I’d also consider listing the person/business that had produced the Syrup
(with contact info if they desired).

It seems like a good way for us to obtain a custom/artisan product. And it
seems like a good way for syrup makers to gain a larger market? Is that a plus?

Tell me what you think the pros and cons are for doing this?

I’m very much looking for input, whoever wants to provide some.

Thanks;

Donald
