Dave,
I planted Mennonite sweet sorghum about 10 years ago in South Alabama. It was VERY short season. I would guess it was about 80 days here (!!). Our long season types are 130 days here.
The Mennonite didn't perform well here because of our diseases from our high humidity. But I wouldn't rule it out for your area as it is extremely short seasoned. It wasn't nearly as tall as Theis sorghum which grows 10-12 feet. It was more like 7 feet maybe.
