Marcus, a few years ago pto driven cane cutters started popping up around here. A frame is built to house a head and saw blade (saw mill size 36-52 inch in some cases).
Made very much like a bush hog, but offset to cut to the side of the tractor. Great labor saver but I tend to cut the cane a little higher at times than I normally would. Also, harder to feed butt ends first (if any syrupmakers still do that).
Small scale operation, a powerfull weed eater with a saw blade on it saves a lot of backache. Best way is to have 2 men grabbing arm fulls of cane and one running the weed eater. BUT watch your toes. Tommy
