Jay, I'm planting Dale seed I got in 2001. I'm getting a virtual 100%
germination. I keep the seed in a zip-lock bag in the freezer. My cane is
about five feet high. I expect it will be another ten days before I see a
head. It is REALLY DRY here ( about 6 inches below normal ) but it is hard
for the dry weather to hold the cane back this late in the game. The great
THREAT is the WIND ! ! ! It can take the whole patch down in about three
seconds ! So far - so good.
If your seeds are ripe then you have already finished making syrup.
