Tony,
I used to buy citrus from an elderly man about 10 years ago at Pierson. I sell lots of seedcane but I am over 200 miles from you. I live about 60 miles West of Tallahassee. I'm sure someone down your way should have some seedcane. One of our Southern Syrupmakers Association members lives near Ocala. He knows most of the syrupmakers in Marion Co. He MAY have some seedcane available or know someone who would. Email me off-forum and I'll give you his contact info.

Hi,
I am new to this pursuit and the mailing list, and I've enjoyed learning from the recent exchanges. We have just taken apart and are about ready to put back together a New Canton #4, made by Parlin & Orendorff Co. According to their catalog, this vertical mill weighs 1300 pounds. It weighed 1700 lbs when shipped from Texas, because there was about 400 lbs of dirt in the drums! I am going to set it up on my farm in Pierson, FL, try to grow some sugar cane and make some syrup. For this purpose, I am looking for a source of seed cane as well as a kettle. I would like to plant 1/4-1/2 acre of cane, and I would like to find a large kettle, 80-100 gallons, if possible, or possibly an evaporator, if I can figure our how to make one work. Any suggestions on seed cane for our area would be greatly appreciated. I am in Volusia County, about 25 miles west of Daytona Beach, where I grow citrus and floral greens. Thank you in advance for any
leads or advice that anybody cares to offer.
Tony
