Well, probably some of you know already that commercial fertilizer is up by 40% or more over last year's prices. Some of you may not know that the price of Cottonseed meal is going up, too.
Last year, I paid about $8 for a 50 lb bag of cottonseed meal for fertilizer. A couple days ago, I began pricing it--figuring that it would NOT increase by the percentage that chemical fertilizer did....wrong ! I guess they are taking advantage of the increase in the price of oil, too---apparently.
Anyway, by shopping around at some stores that don't sell a lot of cottonseed meal. I found a bargain---$8.90 per 50 lb bag. They had a little left from last year's inventory. The prices that I found a few days ago from other stores was $14.15 from the local Co-Op and as low as $11.50 at the normally cheapest store 15 miles away.
So, my advice would be to locate the best price ASAP and stock up now. Try finding a store with some leftover inventory. Tell them you DON"T need it for livestock feed but for fertilizer--so it doesn't need to be as fresh.
                                             Richard Harrison
With oil prices continuing upward, fertilizer prices are expected to continue to climb. A 50 lb bag of 10-10-10 at the Co-Op was about $8 last year---it is now $12 and climbing.....shop early !
