[Syrupmakers] Golden #2 Question

Hey All,

Do any of you know if maybe some of the #2 New models possibly came with the big roller not grooved? I bought one today and the big roller was slick as a whistle. I have seen two others the same way. I can not see a hint of where there were ever grooves just like the other two I have seen that way. The small rollers have a substantial amount of grooving. I'm trying to figure out if I got a decent deal or not. It will require a good bit of work. One thing I really don't like is that someone had welded the lever cap to the shaft although I believe I can grind the weld off without causing any damage. I got the mill for a good price but I see a few things I don't like. I like to restore to like new condition so it will take some doings on this one to get it there. I already had one #2 New model but decided not to pass this one up even though I am trying to get started restoring my 27. I think I pick the most expensive hobbies with the most hard to find parts. Oh well,you've got to have something to worry you.
