[Syrupmakers] 1st time Sorghum planting

I'll be planting my 5 th year this June. I was told from the very first
year by all the old timers in my area to NEVER fertilize sorghum. If the
soil needed it, to fertilize the earth between plowing and planting. This
may not be the accepted way today, but I've followed their advice for 4
years and had great results so far. Good luck,

Kevin

I hope my sorghum turns out OK this year. I plan on having a sorghum
cooking at my new cook house this year. All of you that all that wish to
attend can.

I have never planted sorghum before, so this will be my first rodeo. I am
planning on planting the first of June. I was told the seed I will be
planting takes about 4 months before it is ready to cut. That should put
the cooking time around the first of October.

Sugar Cane I have no problem with as far as when it is ready to strip and
cut, sorghum is another matter. If any of you sorghum growers can give me
any advice, I would really appreciate it. Please feel free to PM me with
advice.

I use 5-10-15 to fertilize my sugar cane and plan on using the same on my
sorghum. What kind of fertilizer do you sorghum growers use? I have some
what of a sandy soil, but not real sandy. How does sorghum respond to
nitrogen? Just a few of the questions I have at this time.
