[Syrupmakers] Cane looks like it is bleeding!

I am new to the list too - and grew my first cane this year (Dale) and 
noticed the same red coloring you are referring to.  I asked the guy who 
was squeezing it what it was and was told that it was a "worm" that had 
caused it....  Don't know how accurate that is - but it stilll made good 
syrup.
