Tracy,

Good to hear from you and we sure hope you can make the syrup making.  I do this as a hobby.  I don't want a real job.  Gave that up 8 years ago.  I'm into just having fun!  

We start milling about 30 minutes after day light.  The local Dutch Oven club will make lunch and we should have some model "A"s drive out as well.  Also some good mountain music and old engines.   It really is a small world!  I was going to be travelling to Vidor, TX the wkend of Nov. 3rd to pick up a generator from a cousin.  I'll try to push that back a week if possible, since I'll only be about 15mi. away.  

   

  I was hoping to cook a batch tomorrow, but as usual, work got in the way;-(

  Urban sprawl is also taking its' toll around me.  I'm losing a 60acre field of sugarcane that a commercial cane farmer has next to me because the land owner sold it to developers.  This means I need to increase my personal stand of cane next year.  Luckily, I've already cleared the land and have it ready for plowing as soon as it dries a bit. 

   

  Also, in case anyone is interested in making a cane hobby into a job, there are a few farmers going out of business, selling harvesters in the $30K and up range (10-15 yrs old).  I'm still looking for that $5k-$10k 'project' harvester.

  My syrup making is on Nov. 10th not the 9th.  You can find info with a map at this link. http://www.oldengine.org/members/jbailey/fboyett.htm   All are invited.  The 9th is just a preperation day.  I will have signs out that say "Syrup Making" at the intersection of Hwy 69 and Hwy 327.  This is just a couple of miles south of Kountze, Texas.
