Hello Marcus,

Well, Louisiana cane in Ga, I guess that is ok. There used to be someone
that posted here near us somewhat and I think his name started with an M
also but it's been awhile. I agree with you on the variety name issue. This
has all proved very interesting to me. I thought when my grandparents got
too old to farm years ago, I had seen my last syrup cooking. I know where
Warner Robins is. I am retired US Air Force.

Marcus,

Are you by chance located in Louisiana? My family is in central Louisiana.
Just wondering if there are others on this list close by.

Bill, I am in no way an expert on sugar cane varieties. However in my
area several people that grow Louisiana ribbon cane ( with vertical stripes
) call it blue ribbon. I have a large big barrel purple variety that has a
light blue colored frosting over the purple that I would consider blue. It
is somewhat like the old time purple which is dark purple with some black
especially under the fotter, Which resembles Gov. improved purple but not
the same. I think the frequent use of numbers instead of the given names
helps to confuse most people, like myself. I know it is helpful to some but
the majority of small syrup makers has only a few favorite varieties and
call them by name. I have noticed some people just name their own, If they
don't know the proper name. I have been guilty of this myself, But have
recently found the correct name and applied it.
