Dan,

That surely sounds like a boatload of fun. I regret that I won't be able to make it, but I hope some others from the list will. Next year, I was thinking of collecting syrup-making dates etc of list members and posting it; might cause a little more interaction. This is the time of year we all live for! Some mighty big talk goes on around syrup cooking. :-)

(On the other hand, this is Ken's list, so he might want to do the collection and posting? . . . even this year.)

What do you think?

Bill et al,
Melton's Chapel United Methodist Church will be hosting a fall festival this weekend. It is primarily an arts and crafts festival, but they have syrup making as well. The syrup making is not a "hosted" event but all are welcome to drop in and take a look. They use one of the long evaporators as opposed to the traditional kettles. This is there primary outreach program and fund raising event each year. There will be vendors displaying wood working and other crafts along with some good Southern Gospel music.
The Piney Bluff Festival grounds are located approximately 5 miles north of Baxley, GA on US #1. It will be on your left traveling north from Baxley. The festival opens Friday, November 17 at 4 PM until 9 PM. They open back up Saturday, November 18 at 9 AM and run until 3 PM. There's plenty of good food both days, but I like the pancake supper Friday night with some just made cane syrup (available at the country store). I'll be there Friday night just ask for me at the country store. Hope to see you.

Hi,

>From time to time, I am contacted by someone who wishes to see syrup being made. Some of these folks want to learn, others simply are interested, others are bona fide syrupmakers who just want to pay a visit to a fellow syrupmaker. If you have a date set and would be willing to take serious visitors, let me know, including a phone number--off line if you wish to be private. I'd also be happy to take suggestions about public events. I'll pass the information to individuals, but won't post to the general public.

At the moment, I am looking for the Gainesville (Florida) area starting November 24th.

Thanks,

bill
