Bill and all other list members,
The Freeman's will continue our annual tradition of grinding cane and
cooking syrup on Thanksgiving day. We will start grinding at about 10 and
will cook off probably 3 80 gal boilings of syrup on the wood fired furnace.
We will also be cooking home made biscuits and home made sausage on the wood
cook stove to sop syrup with after the last boiling comes off, usually about
7 (and there will be a big spread of other food that folks will bring).
There is usually around 300 people who come through during the day who
expect us to do it on Thanksgiving (I think this is our 30th year doing
this). If I can get some work done to our power mill and the weather is
good, we are planning to fire up the 1909 Case steam traction engine to
grind the cane with/or until my brothers give out from firing the engine,
feeding the mill and trying to keep up with everyone. A good many of our
church family are usually around here who love visiting too.
Bill and Ken, you both know you have an open invite (and know how to get
here) to come as well as anyone else on the list who would like to come our
way. Our address is 518 Country Club Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30458. My phone
number is 912-852-9381.
Take Care!
Stacey

Subject: [Syrupmakers] making syrup? accept visitors?
Hi,
From time to time, I am contacted by someone who wishes to see syrup being
made. Some of these folks want to learn, others simply are interested,
others are bona fide syrupmakers who just want to pay a
visit to a fellow syrupmaker. If you have a date set and would be
willing to take serious visitors, let me know, including a phone number--off
line if you wish to be private. I'd also be happy to take suggestions about
public events. I'll pass the information to individuals, but won't post to
the general public.
At the moment, I am looking for the Gainesville (Florida) area starting
November 24th.
Thanks,
bill
