Bill,
I thought that Tew did one called Sugarcane: a Monograph----but I may be wrong. Can't find it on the internet library website...but did find USDA handbook # 122 listed. I guess I need to break down and ask him what he wrote and where to look for it. It MAY have all been printed in some major organization's horticultural magazine.
The 1958 USDA handbook is footnoted in several places and seems to be the "bible " for sugarcane breeders for a number of years. Thanks for your input !

I would like to have a copy of Sugarcane by Ernest Artschwager and E W Brandes (USDA Handbook # 122, 1958) which gives descriptions of many varieties. I read about it being for sale on an internet bookstore website but they no longer have it. Also, I would be interested in Dr. Thomas Tew's more recent and even bigger book on sugarcane varieties. I have looked on Amazon.com and Ebay with no luck. Can anyone help ?

After eight cookings, our group of volunteers, all over 60 years old, say ENUFF! Consequently, because of that and the mild winter, we have leftover cane for sale.

You harvest, you haul from 5.2 miles south of I-75 in Gainesville, Florida. Four stalks per $1.00.

It's an unknown variety of hard green and purple cane which we have used to make an excellent syrup for the past nine years. With water and fertilizer, each year it has grown tall, thick and straight. There are 6 1/2 270-foot rows of cane, estimated to be 27 cubic yards or 5000 feet of rows if used as seed. Each of these rows makes a little over 80 gallons of juice.

Harvest on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. Call Bob Henderson at (352) 284-7342 days or (352) 376-7031 evenings.
