Thanks for the info Richard. It's not exactly the dimensions I was looking for, but I'm sure it would work if someone wanted to try it.

  Monty,
I called it a "vat" because I really don't know what to call it. It probably holds about 100 gallons or so and is 33 L x 24 W x 28 D. It was probably used for collecting the silverware and dishes on a Navy ship for dishwashing. I have often thought of using it for a juice vat. It would need the drain valve removed from the bottom and weld a small piece of SS to cover the hole and put a valve on the side up about an inch from the bottom for settling the juice. I have 2 pictures of it , too--if you're interested.

Richard, are you saying you have a stainless steel vat for sale also? What are the dimensions?

      Stacey,
It might be. I have been told that salt kettles have even steeper sides... I don't know for sure. The sides are slightly sloped. I have 2 pictures of it now if you'd like me to e-mail them to you. Also a SS "vat" about 100 gallons. The kettle measures 39 inches across and about 14-15 inches deep.
      Thanks for the report !

That sounds like a salt kettle to me. I may be wrong, but most salt kettles are about the same size , but the sides are straighter and have a narrow lip.

I have a Schofield 60 gallon cast-iron kettle for sale. It is made in Georgia. It has a part of the lip removed , intentionally I was told, for the smokestack to go. It is a little more straight-sided than "regular" syrup kettles and has a narrower lip. I have never used it and it would need cleaning up a good bit. It is for sale--make offer.
