That sounds like a salt kettle to me.  I may be wrong, but most salt kettles
are about the same size , but the sides are straighter and have a narrow
lip.

   I have a Schofield 60 gallon cast-iron kettle for sale. It is made in
Georgia. It has a part of the lip removed , intentionally I was told, for
the smokestack to go. It is a little more straight-sided than "regular"
syrup kettles and has a narrower lip. I have never used it and it would need
cleaning up a good bit. It is for sale--make offer.
