[Syrupmakers] Today's Headlines?

Hello Syrup-Makers,
Was it just today's headlines? Travelers stranded without proper
accommodations and all the hotels and motels filled to capacity. Prosperity and
affluence for some while others huddled in poverty, cold, and darkness. The weight of
heavy taxation drove many to the ground.
Was it just this week that the air was filled with racial tension and
distrust for authorities? That your doors were closed at darkness because of unsafe
city streets? That religious leaders in whom you had so much trust failed
you? That young men stood at arms trying to protect us from unpopular wars in
far places?
Sounds like today's headlines, doesn't it? Yet, in fact, these were the
headlines in Bethlehem so many years ago. From the deep travail of that gloomy
time there came a shimmering hope, and the angels proclaimed, "For unto you is
born this day in the City of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
That manger child grew into manhood to face a martyr's death for the highest
and finest ideals humankind can ever imagine. Today, Jesus Christ is still
the hope of the world.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Don and Carol Dean.
