Good morning Syrup-makers,

I've been away from my computer for a couple of days, but have enjoyed
reading the recent conversations. And, yes, we'd like to invite all syrup-makers to
our annual meeting at Blountstown, FL. It will be at the Panhandle Pioneer
Settlement, a beautiful setting that will take us back to pioneer days.

What are some strong varieties of sugar cane? Richard Harrison, who grows
dozens of varieties, will talk about that and show some samples. Having problems
with grass and weeds? Clyde Smith, Extension Agent, will discuss herbicides
and sugar cane. Want some tips on cooking syrup? Wesley Pope will lead a
discussion on cooking methods. Wonder about you mill's history or specifics? My
son and I will present a program on mills. Burning too much gas? David
White will present program on making efficient gas burners. We'd love to have all
of you come.

Even if you're not a member of the Southern Syrup-Makers' Association, you're
invited. Sure, we'll encourage you to join. It's a good $20 investment!

For all of us, members and guests alike, we need to make reservations for
lunch by contacting David White at 850-674-5579 or Dwhite at Gtcom.net. Lunch is on
a donation basis, but we'd be embarrassed if we prepared for 50 and 75 people
showed up, so please let us know you're coming.

For those driving in from a distance, Blountstown is just off I-10, south of
Marianna, and there are some nice motels in the area.

I'll post another reminder in January, but hope you'll go ahead and put it on
your calendar now. See you there.

       Don
