A good scale is 29/41 in 1 divisions. 34 on the scale willbe light syrup, 45 medium, 36 thick, 37 will sugar fast. Make you a container, a PVC tube about 1 1/2" X 12 to 14 inches long with a handle so that the hot syrup will not get on your hand. Fill to the top with the hot syrup then put in your hydrometer.
You can buy the hydrometer, :ICL Calibration Laboratories, Inc., Tel. #772 286-7710, email:sales at icllabs.com.
Hydrometer 29/41 Baume heavy 0.1 DIVS 305MM LGTH cat #500-322
Cost $21.32 plus shipping
I buy at least 2, they break easy.

All,
The information I need is what scale do I buy and how to use it. Do you have to cool the syrup before getting a reading or what? What reading to take up?
Thanks, Melvin
