Bobby,
The only "Government Green" # 16 that I am aware of is the # 16 Hybrid grown at Quincy. Some commercial growers often drop part of the "name" when talking about cane varieties. One "glowing example" is the Louisiana commercial sugar variety, LCP 85-384 which has been the leading variety there for many years. The growers there commonly call it simply "384". THEY know what they are talking about when they talk among themselves--but WE may not because we aren't commercial sugar growers.
Another example is "357". A commercial grower in Louisiana once told me about it being a good syrup cane. Well I asked him for the rest of the "name" and he didn't know it because the growers only referred to it as "357". Well, there is a CP 78-357 and also a CP 65-357 !! So when I had opportunity to aquire them I got both to try.
Tell me a litle more about "Government Green # 16" and I'll see if we can narrow it down any more as to what it might be.
                                 Richard
